Apart from contributing to national oil and gas production and state revenue, PetroChina is also an important part of regional development around the Jabung area, especially Tanjung Jabung Barat and Tanjung Jabung Timur Regencies, through its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) programs.

“Jabung’s progress must also be felt by the people who live around the Work Area. We work with the local government, non-governmental organizations and the local community to create programs that benefit the community,” said Dencio.

In March 2023, PetroChina handed over 8 2022 CSR programs worth IDR 16,798,457,400 to the East Tanjung Jabung Regional Government and 4 programs worth IDR 4,718,212,900 to the West Tanjung Jabung Regional Government.

These programs cover various fields, including infrastructure development, economic empowerment and education.

“During the 2020-2022 Covid-19 pandemic, PetroChina’s CSR activities focused on efforts to prevent and deal with Covid-19. This year, PetroChina is preparing several infrastructure development programs and empowering the economy and tourism,” Dencio added.

As part of the PSC Contractors operating in two districts, PetroChina also contributes through the Oil and Gas Production Sharing Fund (DBH Migas) to the regions.

In 2023, Oil and Gas DBH for East Tanjung Jabung reaches IDR 67,521,460,000, up 16% compared to the previous year of IDR 58,104,690,000.

Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas DBH for West Tanjung Jabung Regency reaches Rp. 248,195,883,000, an increase of 2% compared to IDR 244,429,982,000 in 2022.

PetroChina also places the issue of absorbing local workers as a major concern. Currently, almost 85% of Jabung Field workers come from Jambi Province.

“In the first period of the Jabung Contract in 1993 – 2023, more than 50 thousand job opportunities have been created. Some have been given to local workers,” Dencio added.

PetroChina has operated the Jabung Working Area under the supervision of SKK Migas since 2002. In 2021, PetroChina obtained a permit to continue managing Jabung for the period 2023 to 2043.

Head of Program and Communication Division of SKK Migas, Hudi Suryodipuro said, SKK Migas supports exploration and exploitation efforts carried out by PetroChina in Tanjung Jabung Timur and Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi Province.

“Jabung Block still has promising potential. The aggressiveness of the development well drilling program is proof that PetroChina has a strong commitment to increasing oil and gas production which supports increasing national oil and gas production, namely production of 1 million barrels of oil and 12 billion cubic feet of gas in 2030,” said Hudi, Wednesday, (5/5) 4).
